Honouring our Indigenous Graduates
Posted on May 21, 2024On May 21, 2024, students and their families attended Monsignor McCoy High School’s first-ever Indigenous Graduation Ceremony.
The intimate ceremony was held to recognize First Nations, Métis and Inuit graduates in a meaningful way, surrounded by culture and community. We recognize the barriers Indigenous students may face on the journey to high school graduation, and celebrate the resilience and hard work that brought them to graduation day.
As part of the ceremony, students were gifted hand-beaded lanyards and blessed blankets distributed by Elder Pat Aaker.
This event was made possible with the support of our division Indigenous Wellness Facilitator, Mr. Josh Cross, and the Miywasin Friendship Centre. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and support as we celebrate this significant milestone for Indigenous graduates!
May we continue to honour the past and embrace a future of compassion, awareness and healing.
