Notre Dame Academy Awarded PHE Canada 3-star recognition!
Posted on Feb 12, 2019We're proud to announce that Notre Dame Academy has received a National Award recognizing the quality of their physical education program.
The middle school received Physical and Health Education Canada's Three-star award under their Quality Daily Physical Education Award Program this week.
"At Notre Dame Academy we pride ourselves on using physical literacy as a tool to connect students to their learning and promoting a healthy lifestyle that will transcend into everyday lifestyle," said Vice Principal Lon Bosch.
To receive the Three Star award, schools must meet several objectives that pertain to both curriculum learning outcomes and daily physical activity. Requirements include a minimum of 150 minutes of physical education per week (92.5 hours per school year); an emphasis on student learning, fair plan and personal health; and opportunities to be physically active outside of the scheduled PE time. Programs are assessed by PHE Canada using a standardized assessment.
This is the second time the school has received this award. Notre Dame incorporates physical activity into their daily learning through programs like the NDA Sports Academy, Physical Education five times a week and health class, using a variety of facilities, team teaching and covering the strands of the PE curriculum.
Well done, Notre Dame Academy!
