Provincial K-12 Education Update

Premier Jason Kenney has announced new public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Alberta.

As part of these enhanced measures, all classes K-12 will temporarily transition to online learning starting Friday, May 7. Students will return to in-class learning on Tuesday, May 25. We are confident that our schools are well prepared to transition to online learning. Your school administrator will share at-home learning plans with families in the coming days.

May 5: Letter to Parents

Dear MHCBE families,

As you all are aware, Premier Jason Kenney has announced new public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Alberta. The full list of new enhanced public health measures in Alberta can be found here. As part of these enhanced measures, all classes K-12 will temporarily transition to online learning starting on Friday, May 7. Students will return to in-class learning on Tuesday, May 25.

While we are confident that our schools are well prepared to transition to online learning, we understand that there are many questions families may have. 

Here are a few key points you may want to know:

• All grades K-12 will transition to at-home learning on Friday, May 7. This means the last day of in-person class will be tomorrow, Thursday, May 6.
• Teachers and support staff will be working with students online/virtually and will provide a completely virtual education. Students are expected to be in attendance for online learning.
• Early Learning Programs are permitted to continue in-person. If your child is enrolled in ½ day kindergarten and ½ day Early Learning they will be allowed to attend in-person ELP but will need to be at home during the time they would normally attend Kindergarten. 
• Each school building will have a secretary at the school during school hours.
• Your child’s school will contact families directly with details regarding technology and at-home learning materials.

We understand that there are many questions at this time and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition together. As always, staff and student well being is our first priority. We will continue to share updates with families as we receive more information.
