The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is pleased to announce that Miss Leilani Leighton, social and language arts teacher at St. Mary's School, has been chosen to represent our division as the 2025 Alberta School Boards Association Edwin Parr Award Nominee!
"Miss Leighton has demonstrated outstanding teaching ability in her first year, fostering a structured, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. She seamlessly integrates strong classroom management with meaningful student relationships, ensuring all learners feel valued and supported. Her calm and firm approach sets high expectations while maintaining a warm and respectful atmosphere. Leilani’s meticulous planning, clear instructional strategies, and commitment to continuous improvement exemplify the qualities of an exceptional educator." -Mrs. Alexa Batsel, Vice-Principal
Each year, the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) honors six outstanding first-year teachers for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award, one from each zone across the province. Leilani, as well as the other Zone 6 nominees, will be acknowledged at a banquet later this spring. ASBA zone winners are then honoured at the annual fall conference in Edmonton.
Leilani will be recognized at the MHCBE Public Board Meeting on May 13th held at Central Office (the presentation will be at 3:30 p.m.).
Good luck Leilani and congratulations on your nomination!
