Labour Action Q&A

This Labour Action Q&A page is here to provide clear, accessible information to help families stay informed and prepared as we anticipate labour action beginning on October 6, 2025.

This page will be updated regularly as the situation evolves and new questions arise.

All labour action updates will be shared directly with division families from Division Communications via email. Updates will also be posted on our website homepage: www.mhcbe.ab.ca.

Beginning on October 6th, day-to-day school operations K-12 will stop for the duration of the strike.

School staff will not be communicating with families during a strike. All communications will be shared by division communications, through email and then posted to www.mhcbe.ab.ca. Information will not be shared through social media.

Resources from the Government of Alberta:

  • Provincial Payment Program: A payment program (for children 12 and under) will be offered to parents. Eligible parents or guardians would receive $30 per day, or $150 per week, per student for the duration of the ATA’s labour action. The first payment will be made on Oct. 31. This information will be available online via the Government of Alberta website
  • Provincial Learning Supports: Alberta Education and Childcare created a free toolkit for parents to support their child’s learning in the event that schools are closed. The toolkit provides resources that follow the grades K-12 curriculum. The resources are available in English, French and French immersion and focus on the core subjects of language arts, social studies, math and sciences. These resources will be updated weekly.
