No. If you log in using your school email (via PowerSchool integration), your account will automatically be upgraded to Canva for Education.

Privacy and security note: If student names/photos/personal information is being used in any of your Canva designs, you should be using the division Canva for Education platform, not a personal account.

Designs from your personal Canva profile can be copied to your school team with ease! Click here to learn how

For privacy and safety purposes, staff should use Canva for Education accounts when creating school content and materials. This is especially important if student names/photos/personal information is being used in any of your designs.

If you already have a personal account, you can:

Keep them separate, OR
Merge designs by downloading from your personal account and uploading into your school account. Click here to learn how

Yes. Students log in with their school Gmail accounts the same way staff do. They’re automatically placed into the correct Teams through PowerSchool integration.

Our division accounts are integrated through PowerSchool:

  • Staff are automatically added to their school’s “team”
  • Students are connected to their school team through their enrollment
  • If you have recently changed schools, you may still see your former school team (due to historic student record connections). Don’t worry—your designs are still accessible and can be copied or moved between teams.
  • Your personal designs are private unless you choose to share them
  • Designs created in a team folder may be visible to members of that team
  • Always double-check sharing permissions before sharing links externally

Our Canva accounts are integrated with PowerSchool, so staff are automatically placed in Teams based on school and class assignments.

  • If you see Teams from a former school, it’s because your name is still linked to student records in PowerSchool.
  • This is normal and doesn’t affect your work in your current school Team.

Designs are tied to your account, not a Team. This means you can always access them from your Canva homepage.

You can copy or move designs between Teams at any time.

  • Lesson slides, worksheets, newsletters, and posters
  • Student projects (infographics, presentations, videos, portfolios)
  • Group collaboration and peer feedback
  • Creative alternatives to traditional assignments
  • Log in to Canva.
  • Go to Teams → Create a Team.
  • Add your students using their school email addresses.
  • Share templates, assignments, and collaborate easily.

Yes! Canva for Education works on any device- school computer, home computer, Chromebook, or mobile app. Just log in with your school email.

Each school team has been set up with a brand template to help staff access the school logo and colours effortlessly.

If you'd like to add specific templates for programs/teams, please contact Derrian derrian.hallas@mhcbe.ab.ca.

Certain apps within Canva are restricted to those under the age of 13. This means students under 13 may not be able to see certain apps, including AI apps or extensions.

There is no workaround at this time.
