Catholic Education Week 2025

Posted on Sep 24, 2025

Celebrating Catholic Education Week: October 18-24, 2025

Each year, Catholic school divisions across Alberta come together to celebrate the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic education. This year, Catholic Education Week takes place October 18-24, 2025, and will center on the theme: “Anchored in Christ,              A Beacon of Hope.”

The week is a dedicated time to reflect on and celebrate the gift of publicly funded Catholic education in Alberta. Students and staff in Medicine Hat Catholic Schools will join in prayer, liturgies, and activities that highlight how Catholic education is rooted in Gospel values and continues to shine as a light of hope in our world.

“Catholic Education Week is more than a celebration- it’s a reminder of why our schools exist,” says Heather Irvine, Religious Education Coordinator. “We are called to teach with love, guide with faith, and inspire our students to use their unique gifts in service to others.”

Each day of Catholic Education Week will focus on a daily virtue theme, reminding students and staff that our faith is lived out through action:

  • Monday: Hope – Trusting in God’s promise for a brighter tomorrow.
  • Tuesday: Justice – Striving to treat every person with fairness and dignity.
  • Wednesday: Love – Living out Christ’s commandment to love one another.
  • Thursday: Faith – Strengthening our trust and relationship with God.
  • Friday: Self-Control – Practicing discipline and patience in our daily lives.

Division-wide activities include:

    • Catholic Education Week liturgy during school assembly.
    • Daily prayer, including praying the Angelus at lunch.
    • Classroom introductions to the Saint of the Day.
    • Faith-based artwork displayed in schools and created for the annual Knights of Columbus Student Art Show.
    • Staff and students are encouraged to wear a blue shirt on Thursday, October 23rd.

We invite families, parish partners, and community members to reflect on and celebrate the unique contributions of Catholic education.
