Congratulations to Rachel Folk, 2018 Edwin Parr Award nominee!
The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education and the Board of Trustees would like to congratulate Rachel Folk on receiving a nomination for the prestigious 2018 Alberta School Board Association Edwin Parr First Year Teacher Award.
Board Chair Mr. Dick Mastel presented Ms. Folk with a Gold Cross and a certificate to mark her achievement at the School Board Meeting, April 10th.
Ms. Folk is a Grade four teacher at Mother Teresa School who Principal Erika Bodnaruk said has exceeded expectations in her year with the school and shown initiative through activities like her lunch-time yoga club.
"When you step into Rachel's room, she just loves her students, and the students love her," said Ms. Bodnaruk. "That mutual respect is something you don't get all the time, and especially not in a first-year teacher."
The Edwin Parr Award recognizes innovative and outstanding teaching practice and teaching excellence in first-year teachers. Each year, Alberta School Boards Association honours six outstanding first year teachers with an Edwin Parr Teacher Award in each zone. Zone winners across the province are then honoured at the Association's Annual Fall Conference in Edmonton in November.
The Board of Trustees wishes Ms. Folk all the best as a nominee of this prestigious award. The awards ceremony will be held on May 9th where the Zone 6 winnder will be announced.
Good luck Ms. Folk, and congratulations!
