The Season of Lent
What is Lent?
Lent is a 40-day period leading up to Easter, beginning with Ash Wednesday. (This year, Ash Wednesday is February 14.) Lent is a penitential season. That means it is an opportunity to examine your life, give your struggles to God, and invite him to help you become the best version of yourself.
Lent is a wonderful season during our liturgical year to share the concepts of prayer, fasting and almsgiving with our children. All these spiritual exercises help prepare us for the celebration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Consider as a family how you might help others in need by giving of your time or resources. Even very young children can understand and will enjoy participating in the process. For example, carve out time in your day as a family for a special prayer time.
We hope you and your family are able to come closer to God over the next 40 days.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time" 1 Peter 5:6
