Religious Education

- Showing the Face of Christ to All -

At each grade level we have a faith formation program for our students which seeks to share with them the invitation of Jesus to live in and for the Kingdom of God. Our Monday morning assemblies at the elementary schools, our morning prayer/reflections offered at the middle schools and at the high school, focus our school communities upon our choice to include God's "Good News" in our daily routines and approaches to learning. In all subject areas we prayerfully probe the created order as designed by God, with the intention of wedding human knowledge with the knowledge derived from our faith perspective. Catholic social teaching is brought to bear in discussions held in the sciences, social studies and language arts. Through out the year we celebrate the various seasons of the liturgical year, visit various sacred sites, and offer classes in religious thought and training.

The Mandate of Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is to "Show the Face of Christ to All". All of our endeavors are directed towards the proclamation of the gospel of Christ and His invitation to the fullness of life. Jesus is the reason for our schools. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in our classes. He is the model for our staff and the inspiration of our students.

The Division will ensure the integrity and enhancement of Catholic Education, which for us has these fundamental components: Community, Spirituality, Sacramentality, Tradition, Hospitality, Rationality, Justice and Compassion.

Why Choose a Catholic School?

Parents send their children to Medicine Hat and Bow Island Catholic Schools to experience the benefit of a Christian valued integrated approach to education, one that strengthens the child's intellectual, social and spiritual well being and one that values diversity in each student thus creating the opportunity for each student to reach their full potential.

Catholic Education embraces faith and learning. We seek to breathe the teachings and visions of Jesus into our schools, to bring together a rich diversity of students and staff who share together their spiritual journey. Catholic Education permeates our school buildings; what is taught and what is lived.

The Vatican II document Gravissimum Educationis provides a clear expression of the nature of a Catholic school.

PROCLAIMED BY POPE PAUL VI ON OCTOBER 28, 1965

The Catholic School:

A learning community enlivened by the Spirit of Christ. His teachings permeate our philosophy, His life unites us, and His spirit inspires or programs.
