The Centennial Planning Committee is in need of volunteers to assist us for the weekend of June 8 to 10 for the Centennial Homecoming Weekend. We are requesting assistance in one or more of the following areas: Evening Social (18+), Picnic in the Park, Centennial Bishop’s Dinner and the Centennial Mass Celebration.

100 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN OUR COMMUNITY. The upcoming 2011-2012 school year will have a special significance for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education. During the 2011-2012 school year, MHCBE will be celebrating its Centennial. During our 100 years of existence, Catholic Education in Medicine Hat and Bow Island has provided a high quality of service to the Church, its students, its parents, and the community in general.
The theme for the Centennial Celebration is CELEBRATING A CENTURY OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION AND SERVICE. From our humble beginnings in 1911 our history is rich and diverse, one in which is steeped in strong traditions with a story to be told.

A Letter to Our Community... Excitement is building as “The Countdown to the Centennial” has begun for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education. From June 8 to 10, 2012 Catholic Schools and the communities of Medicine Hat, Bow Island and surrounding areas will celebrate 100 years of Catholic Education with a Homecoming Weekend. I am encouraging all current and former students, staff, parents, family members and community members to make plans to attend the 3 days of events. On Friday, June 8 you can golf in the Foundation Golf Tournament and then come to the free Evening Social that follows. Then on Saturday June 9, there are Open Houses at all of the Catholic Schools, followed by a Picnic in the Park which is free and open to all. That evening, the celebration continues with the Centennial Bishop’s Dinner with Bishop Frederick Henry as the guest speaker. We are blessed to have Bishop Henry celebrate with us, please support this very special event. I am pleased to let you know that the proceeds from this dinner will support Youth Ministry in Medicine Hat and the construction of a Retirement Residence for parish priests. Finally on Sunday morning, June 10, Bishop Frederick Henry will celebrate a Mass commemorating the Centennial at Holy Family Parish beginning at 10:30 a.m. I know Catholic Schools are a special place, please join in the celebrations and support Catholic education now and for generations to come. If you or your family members attended a Catholic School or have been part of the Catholic community in any way during the last 100 years, this celebration is for you. Whether you wish to become a sponsor, purchase a ticket to the Bishop’s Dinner or to buy a History Book or get details on the events, you can visit the Centennial website at http://www.mhcbe.ab.ca/Centennial.php or call the Centennial Office at (403) 502-8356. This is my personal invitation to you. The weekend promises to be a memorable event. I am asking for your help in sharing information about the Centennial with family and friends, especially if they live out of town. I hope the weekend will see new memories created as we enjoy reconnecting with former classmates, parents, colleagues, parishioners and community members from the last 100 years. Just imagine.
